Stamford, CT – It is with great enthusiasm that Future 5’s Board Chair Christopher Wright announced that Amanda Dubois-Mwake has been named Future 5’s new Executive Director.
Following an extensive five-month search by Future 5’s Executive Search Committee, Amanda will begin her leadership succession on July 1, taking over from Rachel Dewey, who will be moving to Rhode Island with her family.
With more than 20 years of professional experience in education, global leadership and volunteer management, Amanda has built a reputation for empowering students to turn setbacks caused by circumstance into opportunities for growth and resilience.
“I am excited that I can combine my experiences in higher education and the nonprofit sector with my passion for supporting and empowering under-resourced students to accomplish things they never thought possible,” said Amanda. “I look forward to engaging with the next generation of Future 5 members as they unleash their potential into the world.”
Board Chair Christopher Wright noted, “Amanda has a proven track record; she has successfully guided innumerable underserved students through the twists and turns of college, drawing on her own experience as a first-generation college graduate. She is the perfect person to build on Rachel’s achievement – further amplifying our ability to help motivated high school and college students realize their full potential.”
Amanda was most recently Director of International Programs and Community Engagement at Lehman College, where she was also an adjunct instructor in the Departments of Counseling, Leadership, Literacy and Special Education and Latin American and Latino Studies. As a member of the Lehman College family since 2007, she also served as a mentor and mentor recruiter for the Urban Male Leadership Program at Lehman and believes strongly in the impact a mentor can have on the life of a student.
Amanda’s experience with education programs for underserved students is complemented by what she has learned as a board member of Crossing Thresholds, a nonprofit organization supporting some of Kenya’s most vulnerable children through education.
In her various roles, Amanda has often been known to combine her experiences in social work, theatre and education to create impactful programs, fundraisers and an environment where students can feel safe, welcomed and supported.
Amanda holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Bridgewater State University in Social Work and Theatre, and a Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration from New York University. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Global Leadership and Higher Education at Indiana Tech. She resides in Stamford with her husband and two children.
