The City of Norwalk will glow purple all November for Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, with a kickoff event on Thursday, November 4.
Norwalk Hospital (contributed photo)NORWALK, CT – Norwalk Hospital, the City of Norwalk and the Greater Norwalk Chamber of Commerce are hosting a new initiative called “Light the City Purple” during November for Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month.
The City of Norwalk will go purple in November to celebrate and remember everyone who has been affected by pancreatic cancer, generate awareness about the disease and raise funds to support research at Norwalk Hospital, part of Nuvance Health.
Pancreatic cancer is one of the most lethal types of cancer with a low survival rate because it is difficult to diagnose early. People are typically diagnosed with advanced-stage pancreatic cancer when they have more serious symptoms.
“Our team of clinicians and researchers are dedicated to developing a screening test to detect pancreatic cancer at an earlier, curable stage to improve patient outcomes,” said Dr. Richard Frank, chair of cancer research for Nuvance Health and medical oncologist at Norwalk Hospital. “Philanthropy to support pancreatic cancer research at Norwalk Hospital advances our early-detection efforts to better diagnose, treat and ultimately prevent pancreatic cancer.”
“We are pleased to partner with Nuvance Health and the Greater Norwalk Chamber of Commerce to increase awareness about pancreatic cancer. I encourage our residents and businesses to join us to ‘Light the City Purple’ in November,” said Harry Rilling, Mayor of Norwalk.
“We are always pleased and proud to partner with our great friends at Norwalk Hospital and Nuvance Health — and certainly most willing to collaborate for such a meaningful and important cause,” said Brian Griffin, president and CEO, Greater Norwalk Chamber of Commerce.
