Since Governor Ned Lamont closed all public schools in Connecticut through at least March 31, 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic, Stamford Public Schools announced on Monday that they will now be closed through April 10, 2020. One of the reasons for the extended period is the already scheduled Spring Break week from April 6 through April 10.
In her announcement, SPS Superindendent Dr. Tamu Lucero reminded that between now and the beginning of Spring Break every day will be a “Distance Learning School Day”.
“In the meantime, I encourage you all to follow the advice of the experts in keeping yourself and your family safe,” said Dr. Lucero. “Additionally, helping children cope with anxiety concerning COVID-19 can be difficult. Since young people watch the reactions of the adults in their lives, it is important that you take stock of your personal anxiety levels and be conscious of how this is communicated to children. Remind them that you are committed to their safety and well-being. Let them know that you are willing and able to listen to their concerns. Visit our website for links to resources to help you have those conversations.”
Dr. Lucero reminded parents that meals are available between 10 a.m. and noon, at all our schools and other community locations, which are listed on the website.
Dr. Lucero also announced that the district has created a Quick Link on the home page of the District website, Resources During Closure, where there is access to educational as well as social/emotional resources.
