NORWALK, CT – The Harold W. McGraw, Jr. Family Foundation pledged $1 million in matching funds to Norwalk Hospital to support the facility’s current coronavirus (COVID-19) care efforts and ongoing emergency preparedness. The foundation will provide a dollar-for-dollar match for all community donations made through the end of September 2020, up to the gift amount of $1 million. The McGraw family has a long history of support for Norwalk Hospital, including The Anne P. and Harold W. McGraw, Jr. Center for Outpatient Services and the McGraw Center for Advanced Learning.

Serving a population of more than 250,000 people, Norwalk Hospital is on the frontline of fighting COVID-19 for communities across lower Fairfield County, a Connecticut hot zone for the pandemic and near the national epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak in New York City. Norwalk Hospital staff is demonstrating remarkable courage, resilience, and commitment in meeting present-day challenges of treating COVID-19 while continuing to provide quality patient care.

“This transformative matching gift from the McGraw family has set the standard for generosity and unity among Fairfield County residents. It has provided community members with a unique opportunity to maximize the impact of their financial gifts while supporting public health and showing appreciation for the lifesaving care our team members provide every day,” said Peter R. Cordeau, president of Norwalk Hospital. “Financial contributions from the McGraw foundation — as well as from local businesses and individuals — demonstrate our community’s commitment to a robust healthcare system that is prepared for current and future crisis situations.”

Local philanthropic efforts to fund equipment — including personal protective equipment (PPE) for frontline staff — COVID-19 testing, and investing in safety of clinical environments have been critical to the progress Norwalk Hospital has made in managing the COVID-19 pandemic and treating seriously ill patients. Funds are also being used to support ongoing emergency preparedness efforts, such as research, education, and enhanced testing.

“The fight against COVID-19 is not yet over. The support of the McGraw family and our community donors has and will continue to play an instrumental role in providing our healthcare workers with the tools and equipment they need to care for our patients, and keeping our community safe,” said Mr. Cordeau.

Norwalk Hospital is inviting local businesses and individuals to support healthcare services in the community and maximize their giving through the dollar-for-dollar match funded by the McGraw Foundation.
