BRIDGEPORT, CT – A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in Bridgeport on Thursday for a new same-day community health center. The Southwest Community Health Center at 1020 Fairfield Avenue offers anyone immediate help for a non-life-threatening illness or injury.
“We have been in Bridgeport for 45 years and this is the first site that we have opened that is dedicated to same-day care. We really, truly are bringing healthcare to our community and making it more accessible than ever,” said Mollie Melbourne, CEO of Southwest Community Health Center.
The 6,500 sq ft center will house 6 Medical Exam Rooms, with radiology services coming soon. The location will be open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm and Saturday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Area residents can call 203.332.3565 to schedule appointments.
“I can remember being younger and there really wasn’t the opportunity for same-day care the way there is now,” said Bridgeport Mayor Joseph Ganim. “Same-day care goes a long way to meet the needs and I want to thank Southwest.”
Through surveys, Southwest discovered that many patients find it difficult getting to urgent care centers located outside of the city. With that in mind, the organization developed sites along major transit lines within Bridgeport. With this new location on Fairfield Avenue, Southwest CHC will offer a same-day care facility, right in the heart of the community.
“I’m so grateful that Southwest is stepping in to fill this niche right here where so many residents live and can reach this place within walking distance. It really provides such a critical service that in the medical world we have come to expect,” said Scott Burns, City Council Member, District 130.
Providing same-day service to this medically underserved community is part of the continuum of care provided by Southwest Community Health Center. The organization provides high-quality, accessible medical, dental and behavioral health services across the Greater Bridgeport area, now in seven locations. To learn more, visit swchc.org.
